Included in the class of anorexic drugs, Phendimetrazine has similar action as amphetamines, stimulating the central nervous system, blood pressure and heart rate and leading to appetite decrease. Phendimetrazine offers weight loss and weight loss maintenance only in combination with low calorie diets and physical exercise. Phendimetrazine should be taken only to the doctor’s recommendation.
Directions of using Phendimetrazine:
Usually, the drug is prescribed once a day with a full glass of water. However, depending on personal patient profile, it may also be prescribed two to three times a day. In order to avoid missing a dose, patients are advised to take the medication around the same hour every day. Taking Phendimetrazine shortly before bedtime may induce sleep disorders. Yet, if a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered or if the next dose is almost due just skip the missed one and take the next one on time. Phendimetrazine dosage should not be exceeded, otherwise health problems may appear. Overdosing the drug needs immediate medical attention.
Contraindications to Phendimetrazine:
Phendimetrazine is contraindicated to patients with
complicated heart
condition and blood pressure disorders, suffering from glaucoma,
thyroid disorders and diabetes, also for suffering from epilepsy,
arteriosclerosis, drug and/or alcohol addiction and anxiety disorders.
Phendimetrazine is contraindicated to patients with MAOI intake
records, including Marplan, Parnate, Nardil, of less than 14 days prior
to Phendimetrazine intake. Other drug interactions refer to
associations with insulin, guanethidine, which may cause blood pressure
increase, antidepressants, which may inhibit effects of Phendimetrazine
and others.
Phendimetrazine's Side effects:
Reported side effects of Phendimetrazine include tremor,
headache,
lightheadedness, stomach disorders like flushing or constipation,
irascibility, dry mouth and erectile disorders. More serious adverse
reactions that need medical help include allergies, swellings,
significant increase in blood pressure, hallucinations, behavior
disorders, abnormal heart rate, and confusion.
One of the significant adverse reactions of the drug is mental and
physical addiction
including withdrawal effects after stopping the treatment. Therefore,
doctor’s recommendation is necessary in ceasing gradually the intake of
Phendimetrazine.
