Patient Informations:
Levitra, generically known as Vardenafil, is
an FDA approved oral drug
treating erectile dysfunction in male patients and available by
prescription only as 2,5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg tablets.Levitra
helps men achieve and maintain an erection under the influence of
sexual stimulation.
The drug works by relaxing muscles and stimulating
blood flow into the penis. Levitra inhibits PDE5 enzyme
responsible
for erectile dysfunction and helps the penis maintain blood flow long
enough to perform sexual intercourse. Normally, when sexual act
ends, blood flow decreases and the erection gradually lessen.Levitra
was clinically proven to register positive results in patients
featuring certain health problems, including type 1 and 2 diabetes,
increased blood pressure and cholesterol level.
It is important to remember, however, that Levitra neither cures erectile dysfunction, nor does it protect from sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. Levitra is strictly dependent on sexual stimulation; it works as long as sexual stimulation persists, even though the effects of Levitra may be obtained for several hours. Usually, Levitra first-users are prescribed with 10 mg tablets and doses may be modified depending on body toleration to the drug.
Contraindication to Levitra
Levitra is contraindicated to be taken more than once a day
and should be taken by
mouth approximately one hour before sexual intercourse. The medication
does not meet food restrictions.
Levitra is also contraindicated in association with a series of
drugs
like nitrates, also known as poppers, and alpha blockers, usually used
in treating heart conditions and prostate disorders. Lower dosage may
be prescribed in patients taking ketoconazole, erythromycin, ritonavir,
itraconazole and indinavir.
Levitra Side effects:
Levitra is generally well tolerated but there have been
reported
several adverse reactions ranging from mild to severe levels. Commonly
reported were headaches, stomach disturbances like flushing and runny
or stuffy nose. Less common side effects that require medical help
include priapism (prolonged erection) leading to permanent damage of
the penis and vision disturbances like not being able to distinguish
blue from green or seeing objects in blue tones.
Clinical tests have also revealed that in certain, however, few cases Levitra,
as all
the other ED oral drugs, may induce a sudden vision loss or decrease,
which requires immediate seizure of the treatment with any PDE5
Inhibitor.
